WDC Solutions, an intellectual property (IP) company is about Wireless Digital Communications. It specializes in wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, GPRS, EDGE, and UMTS. Two Bangalore boys, Manju Murthy and Arun Acharya, who have significant international business experience between them, incorporated the Company in June 2000. SyncExpress, a product of WDC Solutions, is a ready-to-ship wireless middleware layer for one-step synchronization of content between multiple information sources including Personal Digital Assistants, laptops, cell phones, and similar mobile devices. SyncExpress implements OBEX and SyncML specifications to provide one-step wireless synchronization of data and makes management of information on mobile devices seamless. SyncExpress is a product that can work on different transports including WAP and TCP/IP and therefore provides interoperability between different wireless protocols. Other products in the pipeline are a TCP/IP stack, messaging stack and WAP stack. The company has been working with MEZOE, a division of Cambridge Consultants Ltd, UK, and other stack vendors in providing synchronization features to their stacks. “We strongly believe that the building blocks of WDC Solutions’ success are its expanding eco-system of alliances and partnerships with leading wireless technology companies worldwide’, said Manju S Murthy, CEO. WDC Solutions was the only Indian company chosen to be a featured speaker at the Bluetooth Congress 2001, held from 5th to 8th of June 2001 at Monaco. Arun Acharya the company’s CFO addressed VCs from around the world at this event. The Bluetooth daily news, the official newsletter for the Bluetooth Congress quoted him saying, “There is a big demand for middleware, which everybody seems to be neglecting because they are going into the stack or apps.” The interest generated by the large number of prospective customers at the booth proved that the VCs considered middleware a necessity and the only space untouched. So, get ready for the investments to flow down. WDC Solutions booth at Monaco showcased their ability as the wireless middleware specialists. This event saw Ilari Nurmi, the business development manager for Nokia Mobile Phones and Vice Chairman of the SyncML initiative admitting that data synchronization has been the Achilles’ heel of mobile computing. The demonstration of SyncExpress with SyncML features at the event proved that arguably, this company is the only one with a Bluetooth product with SyncML features that is ready to ship, adding another golden feather for the Indian IT sector. The event has helped WDC Solutions to be displayed as leaders in the wireless middleware market in the global wireless community.
